ACB arrests Drug Control Officer Handwara for accepting bribe

Kupwara, Nov 14: The Anti-Corruption Bureau Tuesday arrested Drug Control Officer Handwara for accepting bribe from a medical shop owner in Bumhama area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
DySP ACB Muhammad Rafi, privy to the entire process, said that the concerned officer had seized some medicine from a medical shop at Hachmarg, Kupwara.

“Instead of initiating any legal action, he had kept the seized medicine in Handwara and was demanding bribe from the medical shop owner to settle the issue,” he said.
DySP Rafi said that a trap was set against Drug Control Officer Ishtiyaq Hussain Baba after they received a complaint, through its Helpline No against the officer for demanding bribe.
He said that people should come forward and not give bribe to the government officials whatsoever. “Our department is meant to eradicate this menace from the society. We are just a phone call away. People should rise to the occasion and inform us about the erring officials,” he said.
