Budgam court convicts man for wife’s murder

Budgam, Nov 18: A Court in Budgam on Saturday convicted a man for murdering his wife twelve years ago.

Additional Sessions Judge Budgam, Aijaz Ahmad Khan convicted Mushtaq Ahmad Pandith alias Bilal after holding him guilty of murdering his wife Sameera Jan in May 2011 in their matrimonial house in Kralpora village of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.“Even though opportunity was provided to the accused, who has taken the defence of not being present on the spot on the day of occurrence, has not been able to provide any circumstance to show that the accused was not present on the spot on the fateful day,” the court said in its 90 page judgment. The Court held Pandith guilty of murder after prosecution had been able to prove his guilt in the case.

The prosecution case indicated that Sameera Jan was found dead in her husband’s house on May 1, 2011, with a knife stabbed into her back. Her husband absconded soon after the crime. He was arrested in Jammu on May 13, 2011.
