Missing school driver’s body fished out in Bandipora

Bandipora, Nov 4: The body of a man missing for eight days was spotted floating in a stream in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Saturday, triggering hue and cry in the area. Manzoor Ahmad Lone, 28, a school bus driver by profession from Paribal village in Hajin, was last seen by his brother in the family’s orchard on October 26 evening and there were no traces of him until Saturday. “We searched in the forest, river, and every area we could to locate him, but we had no success,” said Sarpanch Farooq Ahmad, who is also the president of Gousia Sumo Stand Hajin. Bandipora villagers demand compensation for land taken for road project in 2014

Bandipora, Nov 4: Villagers from Dardpora in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district are annoyed with the R&B department for not paying compensation to those whose land was taken for a road project in 2014. A delegation of villagers said the road from Dardpora to Nagwani was built under the NABARD wing of the department. “The road was completed in two years,” said Ali Mohammad, a local village head. He said all the components, including macadamisation, were done. However, the affected villagers were never compensated despite promises. “We are about 35 families who lost land to the road and we haven’t received a penny till this day, despite the government’s assurances,” Mohammad said. Missing since 8 days, man found dead in Bandipora village

Hajin, Nov 04 : The body of a man, missing for eight days, was found in the Nichair Nallah in Banyari area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Saturday, officials said. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the body was found by some fisherman in Nichair Nallah, following which a police team reached to the spot and retrieved the body. The deceased was identified as Manzoor Ahmad Khan son of Nazir Ahmad Khan, a resident of Paribal Hajin. Man Killed, His Brother Among Two Critically Injured in Bandipora

Srinagar, Oct 26: A man was killed and two others, were critically injured in a road mishap along Bandipora Srinagar highway this morning, officials said. They said that a vehicle bearing registration number JK01J 5560 overturned at Shilvat, near Asrar Motors, resulting in injuries to three persons. “The injured trio identified as Bilal Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar, Rafeeq Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Majeed Dar and Saleem Ahmad Dar all residents of Gundroshan Narayan Bagh Ganderbal, were shifted to JVC Srinagar, where Saleem Ahmad Dar was declared as brought dead on arrival,” they said. Quoting a police official, GNS reported that an FIR number 174/2023 under section 279, 337 IPC has been registered in this regard for further investigations.

Fire damages school in Bandipora

Bandipora, Dec 14: A government middle school was demaged in a massive blaze in Turknaadi Turkpora village of north Kashmir's Bandipora district, officials said here on Wednesday morning. Quoting an official, news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO) reported that fire broke out in the school building at Turknaadi in the wee hours today morning. He said in the incident school building was damaged as fire tenders couldn’t reach early. The area is around 12 kilometres away from the district headquarter. The official said the cause of the fire was being ascertained.
