Handwara village reels under darkness due to damaged transformer

Kupwara, Dec 23: Hardtpath, Check Dudipora village in Handwara is without electricity for the past eleven days as the electric transformer has got damaged.

The residents said that since a fortnight they were suffering due to lack of electricity. “For ten days the concerned officials did not bother to lift the transformer and take it to the workshop located at Chotipora. Don’t know when our transformer will be repaired,” said a local.

The residents said that they need to travel to nearby villages to charge their mobile phones and other electric appliances. They demanded repair and up-gradation of the transformer at the earliest, so that their sufferings may end.

Meanwhile an official said that the transformer had been repaired and was transported on Saturday evening. He said that every day they receive 5-6 damaged electric transformers due to which it takes them a few days for repairs. “ People need to use electricity judiciously to thwart damage to electric transformers,” he added.
