Pahalgam, Apr 25: People of Pahalgam came together on Friday to express solidarity with tourists and migrant workers, assuring them of full support in the wake of the recent attack that claimed the lives of 26 visitors.
During the congregational Friday prayers, Imams at major Masjids, including the Jamia Masjid Hanfia, urged tourists and migrant workers not to hesitate to reach out for help.
“I appeal to all tourists visiting Pahalgam and to the migrant workers living here, if you are facing any issues, come forward. We are here to protect you, said the Imam during his sermon. Whether it is accommodation, food, or financial assistance, you are welcome to our homes. Don’t suffer in silence.
The message was echoed across all major and smaller Masjids of the tourist resort, with clerics stressing communal harmony and offering support to those in need.
People of Pahalgam stand with the families of those tourists who lost their lives. Their grief is our grief, one of the sermons said.
Following the prayers, a solidarity march was held by locals, including hoteliers, pony handlers, cab drivers, and others associated with the tourism industry.
Many held placards condemning the attack and demanding swift justice for the perpetrators.
We are devastated. Guests are a blessing, and their loss has shaken us deeply, said Shabir Ahmad, a local. Livelihood is in Allah’s hands, but the pain of losing those who came to enjoy our land is unbearable.
Meanwhile, the tourist place observed a shutdown for the third consecutive day to mourn the killing of 25 tourists and a local pony wala.
Streets wore a deserted look with public transport remaining off the roads.
Entire Pahalgam is still in mourning. No one has resumed work yet, said a local shopkeeper.
