Sopore’s Daranambal residents rue lack of basic amenities

Sopore, Feb 18: The residents of Daranambal Tarzoo area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district rued lack of development, basic amenities in their area and demanded attention of higher-ups in this regard.

They said that the locality is facing acute shortage of drinking water, poor drainage facility and dilapidated inner link roads in the area causing immense hardships to the residents.

“The area has been neglected by the consecutive governments and nobody seems to be taking our issues seriously,” Tajamul Ahmad Dar, one of the residents said.

Despite the locality being barely two and half kilometers away from main town Sopore, the area is still developmentally very poor as compared to other nearby localities and it lacks basic amenities of life as well, said Tajamul.

Residents said that they have repeatedly brought these issues to the notice of higher ups several times but on ground nothing has been done.

The residents further said that little rains cause water logging in the area which, as per them, was the result of faulty drainage system in their respective localities.

The area is the worst hit and faces shortage of drinking water since years, “We are forced to drink contaminated water from the nearby open dirty canal which is choked with enormous garbage causing various water borne diseases among residents especially children,” Taja Begum another resident said.

Residents are suffering badly as the local administration is least bothered about the worst condition of the locality .

While blaming local Sarpanch and concerned DDC members, residents said that they too ignored the area during their tenure.

The residents appealed to the LG Manoj Sinha and district administration Baramulla to resolve their problems as soon as possible so that they will not have to suffer more.
