T20 cricket tournament concludes in Handwara

Kupwara, Jan 7 : The final match of Shaheed PSI Arshid Ashraf Memorial T20 cricket tournament was Sunday played at Bakiaker Sports Ground in the Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

A total of sixteen teams from Police District Handwara participated in the tournament while Rajwar 11 and Galoora Sports Club prevailed over their opponents to reach the final. Guloora Sports Club continued with their prolific performance and won the final match.

Meanwhile, police in a statement said, “To boost the sports activities in Police District Handwara and to inculcate the sports spirit among the youth of Handwara Police had organised T20 Cricket tournament in memory of Shaheed PSI Arshid Ashraf Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament. Organising such programmes in memory of police martyrs serves a dual purpose.”

“Firstly, it pays tribute to the valour and sacrifice of those who laid down their lives in the line of duty, highlighting their unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the nation. Secondly, such events act as a powerful means to commemorate the legacy of these heroes, ensuring that their sacrifices are not forgotten.”

“By linking these tournaments to the names of the fallen officers, it not only honors their memory but also brings the community together to collectively express gratitude for their service. These events, beyond being sporting competitions, become a platform to instil a sense of pride and remembrance in the community. They reinforce the idea that the sacrifices made by police martyrs are not in vain and that their dedication to duty continues to inspire and unite people.”

Overall, organising such events stands as a poignant reminder of the selfless service rendered by these individuals for the greater good of the nation.

The tournament on Sunday concluded at Bakiakher Sports Ground Handwara. A total of 16 teams participated in the tournament and the final match was played between Rajwar-11 and Galoora Sports Club which was won by Galoora Sports Club, the statement said.

SSP Handwara Dawood Ayoub accompanied by DySP DAR Handwara, SDPO Handwara, DySP Kralgund, All SHOs, IC PPs and DDC Rajwar Mir Sulaiman along with the family of our fallen hero Shaheed PSI Arshid Ashraf distributed cash prizes/trophies to the winner and runner up teams. After the culmination of the presentation ceremony, while interacting with the participants, the SSP Handwara expressed immense happiness with the sports activities being conducted in the district from time to time.

He promised that many more such tournaments would be organised in future also and JKP would make all the efforts it can, in encouraging the sports talent of the district, the statement said.
