Vehicles to be allowed from both sides along Srinagar-Jammu National Highway tomorrow, say Traffic officials

Srinagar, March 03: Traffic police on Wednesday said that subject to fair weather and good road condition Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) shall be allowed to commute from both sides along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway tomorrow.

About the Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) the officials said that they shall be managed in a regulated manner ‘assessing the road condition’.

In an official communique, the traffic police said that in-view of single road at Dalwas, Panthyal, Nachlana, Kishtwari Pather, and other areas,cut-off timing for LMVs is set at 0600hrs to 1300hrs from Nagrota (Jammu), 0700hrs to 1400hrs from Jakheni (Udhampur), and 0600 hrs to 1300 hrs from NAVYUG tunnel in Qazigund (Kashmir).

However, the official said that the cut-off timing shall depend on the condition of the road. While it also said that no vehicle shall be allowed after the set timing.

About the traffic movement, it said that from 02-April-2024 to 03-April-2024, a slow movement was observed along the NH-44 due to breakdown of five HMVs and single lane traffic at Dalwas, Mehad, Panthyal, Nachlana, Shalgarhi etc.

The poor surface condition of road at many places between Nashri and NAVYUG tunnel also contributed to the slow movement of traffic, said the official spokesperson.
