Srinagar, Apr 24: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Baramulla and Kulgam districts, and recovered a substantial quantity of contraband substances from their possession.

A police in a statement said that a Police party of Police Post Mirgund at a checkpoint established at Check Raza Khan intercepted a vehicle (Alto) bearing registration number JK01V-3940 with two persons on board. They have been identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Shah, son of Abdul Ahad Shah, resident of Lolab Kupwara, A/P Rambailgarh; Khushboo Jan, daughter of Bashir Ahmad Parray, resident of Rambailgarh. During search, 1146 grams of Charas Powder were recovered from their possession. Both the accused have been arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized.

The statement also said that in Kulgam, a Police team from Police Station Qazigund set up a checkpoint at Levdoora crossing NHW and intercepted a vehicle (Truck) bearing registration number JK02BK-8707 driven by Sardar Chand, son of Deena Nath, resident of Samba Manan, Jammu. During search, Poppy Straw like contraband substance was recovered. He has been arrested and the vehicle used in commission of crime has also been seized.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations are underway.
