Anantnag, May 31: During the 2nd National Lok Adalat organised by District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Anantnag on Saturday 13,783 cases were settled amicably out of 13,999 taken up.

A total amount of Rs 4,56,75,000 was settled in various cases, including civil disputes, service-related matters, cheque bounce cases, compoundable criminal cases, matrimonial disputes, money recovery suits, Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) claims, traffic challans, bank-related cases and pre-litigation matters.

The Adalat was inaugurated at the Alternate Dispute Resolution Centre, District Court Complex Anantnag. The ceremony was presided over by DLSA Chairman and Principal District and Sessions Judge Anantnag, Tahir Khurshid Raina, in the presence of Additional District and Sessions Judge Masarat Roohi; Secretary DLSA Fozia Paul; Chief Judicial Magistrate Feroz Ahmad Khan; Special Mobile Magistrate Lubna Sultan; District Mobile Magistrate Anurag Khajuria; Munsiff (JMIC) Arshad Aziz Qureshi; members of the Bar, advocates, court staff, media persons and litigants.

Five benches were constituted at the DLSA headquarters. The first bench was presided over by Chairman Tahir Khurshid Raina, with Muzaffar Ahmad Bhat, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel, as member.The second bench was led by Masarat Roohi with Arshad Aziz Qureshi as member.The third bench was headed by Secretary Fozia Paul, assisted by Zakir Hussain Lone, Deputy Chief LADC.The fourth bench was chaired by Chief Judicial Magistrate Feroz Ahmad Khan, accompanied by Special Mobile Magistrate Lubna Sultan.The fifth bench was presided over by District Mobile Magistrate Anurag Khajuria, with Abid Rasool Padder, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel, as member.

Additionally, six more benches were set up at peripheral courts, headed by: Tabassum Qadir Parray at Sub-Judge Court Bijbehara;Shafeeq Ahmad Malik at Sub-Judge Court Vailoo;Arizoo Javed at Munsiff Court Dooru;Fazal ul Haq at Munsiff Court Shangus;Shyam Kumar at Munsiff Court Aishmuqam and Himanshu Atri at Addl. Special Mobile Magistrate Court Pahalgam. One more bench was constituted at the office of the District Social Welfare Officer, Anantnag, with Assistant LADC Jasra Ayoub. During the event, DLSA Chairman Raina distributed two cheques totaling Rs 5,25,000 under the Victim Compensation Scheme. He also handed over MACT settlement cheques, including the highest claim amounting to Rs 94,60,000.
