2 Army porters slip into Gulmarg stream

Baramulla, Jan 8: Two porters working with the Army slipped and fell into a stream enroute to Anita Post in Upper Gulmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday, officials said.

They said that the incident occurred as the porters were moving towards Anita Post, which was cut off due to heavy snowfall in the area.

The porters are believed to have skidded and fallen into a deep gorge while walking on the snowbound terrain.

The porters have been identified as Layakat Ahmad Deedard, 27, son of Ghulam Muhammad Deedard of Masjid Aagan Chandoosa, and Ishfaq Ahmad Khatana, 33, son of Jamaluddin Khatana of Pachar Chandoosa, Baramulla.

Despite harsh weather conditions and heavy snowfall in the area, rescue operations have been started to trace the missing porters.
