Srinagar, Oct 13: Acting tough against illegal mining, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday booked two vehicles and challaned six others, involved in unauthorised extraction and transportation of minerals from Rambiara Nallah in the Zainapora and Turkwangam areas.
A police official said that during routine patrolling on the Heff–Sugan axis, SHO Police Station Zainapora along with Incharge Police Post Turkwangam intercepted one Tipper (JK22A-8507) and one Tractor (JK22D-1146) operating without valid royalty documents. These vehicles were found to be repeat violators and accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 85/2025 has been registered at Police Station Zainapora under relevant provisions of law, and investigations was initiated.
Moreover, the official said that six other vehicles, comprising 03 JCBs, 02 Dumpers, and 01 Tipper have been challaned through the Geology and Mining Department under the MMRD Act for first time violations. He said the legal action has been initiated against the owners as per statutory provisions.
The official added that police remains committed in protecting natural resources and reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards illegal mining.
Police urged the citizens to support this initiative by reporting such activities.
