3 Indians missing in Iran

New Delhi, May 28: Three Indian nationals from Punjab, Hushanpreet Singh of Sangrur, Jaspal Singh of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, and Amritpal Singh of Hoshiarpur, have gone missing in Iran, the Indian Embassy in Tehran confirmed on Tuesday. The trio reportedly vanished on May 1, shortly after landing in the Iranian capital reports NDTV.

In an official statement, the Embassy said it had been approached by the families of the missing men and is actively pursuing the matter with Iranian authorities.

“The Embassy has strongly taken up this matter with the Iranian authorities, and requested that the missing Indians should be urgently traced and their safety should be ensured,” the statement read. It further added that the families are being regularly updated on developments.

NDTV added that according to the families, the men were promised passage to Australia by an agent based in Punjab, who arranged for them to travel via a Dubai-Iran route. The agent had assured them of accommodation in Iran, but soon after their arrival, the three were allegedly kidnapped. Relatives claim they received a disturbing video showing the men bound with yellow ropes and bleeding, with their captors demanding a ransom of ₹1 crore. The kidnappers allegedly threatened to kill them if the money was not paid. Until May 11, the victims were able to communicate with their families through the kidnappers’ phones, but no contact has been possible since.

The travel agent, said to be from Hoshiarpur, has also gone missing. The case has raised fresh concerns over human trafficking networks operating through deceptive travel schemes.
