New Delhi, May 14: Security forces have eliminated 31 Naxals, Union Home Minister Amit Shah described as the “largest anti-Naxal operation ever” conducted in the country. The operation took place in the remote and rugged Kurraguttalu hills along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border.
Announcing the success via a post on X (formerly Twitter), Amit Shah said the region, once a stronghold of left-wing extremists, has now been reclaimed. “Achieving a historic success in our resolve for a #NaxalFreeBharat, security forces have eliminated 31 notorious Naxalites… Once ruled by red terror, this hill today proudly flies the tricolour,” Shah wrote.
The operation, carried out jointly by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Telangana’s Special Task Force (STF), and the District Reserve Guard (DRG), reportedly faced adverse weather and challenging terrain. Despite these hurdles, Shah confirmed that there were no casualties among the security forces.
Kurraguttalu hill, Shah said, was serving as the unified headquarters for several high-level Maoist formations, including PLGA Battalion 1, the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC), the Telangana State Committee (TSC), and the Central Regional Command (CRC). It functioned as a critical node for the training, strategic planning, and arms manufacturing of the Maoist insurgency in central India. “I congratulate the brave personnel of CRPF, STF, and DRG who faced the Naxalites with valour despite bad weather and difficult terrain. The entire nation is proud of you,” Amit Shah added in a message on X.

The Home Minister reiterated the government’s pledge to eradicate the four-decade-old Naxal problem. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are committed to uprooting Naxalism… I once again assure the people of India that by 31st March 2026, India will be free of Naxalism,” he said.
The recent operation comes amid a broader decline in Naxal-related violence over the past decade, with security forces increasingly pushing Maoist cadres into smaller pockets. The latest operation marks a significant tactical and symbolic victory for security forces in one of the most entrenched theatres of Maoist militancy.
