Significant milestone in connecting Kashmir: Ashwini Vaishnaw

New Delhi, Sep 16: The Senior Journalists’ Federation of India (SJFI), a newly formed national body of veteran journalists, has decided to meet Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during the Budget Session in January 2026 to press for a set of welfare measures.

The organisation plans to submit a memorandum seeking a national pension scheme, comprehensive healthcare and insurance coverage, and the establishment of a National Media Commission to review challenges facing journalism and the welfare of senior media professionals.

The decisions were taken at an online meeting of SJFI’s national committee, presided over by its president Sandeep Dikshit. The first National Council session of the federation will also be held in New Delhi in January 2026, where the draft constitution, organisational matters, and the memorandum to the government will be finalised. The meeting also resolved to register SJFI with its headquarters in New Delhi, initiate a fund-raising drive, and expand membership across states and union territories. The federation recently held its first national conference in Thiruvananthapuram in August.
