Srinagar, Oct 03: In a continued drive against illegal mining, police have seized 23 vehicles found transporting illegally extracted minerals in different areas of Pulwama, Ganderbal and Shopian.
A police spokesperson said that in Pulwama, 02 tippers, bearing registration numbers JK08G-6301 and JK13E-0314, were seized by Police Post Rahmoo. Similarly, 04 more tippers bearing registration numbers JK13J-2378, JK01AN-8100, JK01AP-9093 and JK04B-8285 were seized by Police Station Pulwama.
Meanwhile in Ganderbal, Police registered 03 FIR’s, seized 09 tippers, 02 Tata Mobiles & 02 Tractors are involved in illegal mining activities, and accordingly apprehended accused persons in various cases/matters for their direct involvement in the crime. The seized vehicles, illegally loaded with minor minerals extracted from Nallah Sindh, Ganderbal, were intercepted within the jurisdiction of P/S Ganderbal, P/S Safapora P/S Gund and PP Nagbal. The registration numbers of the seized vehicles are JK05B-9529, JK01AF-0052, JK01T-1471, JK13C-8090, JK01J-9411, JK01J-9411, JK09C-5028, JK15C-0729, JK18-1190, JK01AX-1953, PB5AX-7928, JK16B-9334 and JK01R-3970, spokesperson said.
He also said that in Shopian, 02 dumpers, bearing registration numbers JK13J-6277 and JK13D-7161, were seized by Police Post Turkwangam. Similarly, two more dumphers bearing registration numbers JK13K-1041 & JK13J-7755 were seized by Police Station Shopian.
Accordingly, cases under relevant provisions of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigation initiated, he added.
J&K Police reiterated its firm commitment to curb illegal mining and safeguard natural resources of the district, and urged citizens to extend cooperation by reporting such unlawful activities.
