Srinagar, Oct 27: Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather on Monday rejected an adjournment motion moved by People’s Conference President Sajad Lone on the rationalisation of the reservation policy.
While moving the motion, Lone described the government’s move as a “post-dated cheque for disaster,” warning that it could have serious consequences if not debated in the House.
However, Speaker Rather disallowed the motion, stating that it did not qualify under the Assembly rules. “I have rejected it. The matter should be of recent occurrence and not one already discussed. You had raised the same issue during the last budget session,” the Speaker observed.
He further pointed out that since the issue was sub judice and pending before a court, it could not be taken up for discussion in the Assembly. “This adjournment motion is rejected,” the Speaker ruled.
