Srinagar, Dec 22: The All India Medical Students’ Association has sought urgent intervention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure the safety and well-being of Indian medical students reportedly stranded in Bangladesh amid what it described as unsafe and uncertain conditions.
In a detailed representation addressed to the Prime Minister, AIMSA said it has been receiving alarming messages from students and their families regarding distressing situations faced by those studying in Bangladesh. The organisation said the prevailing atmosphere has triggered fear and anxiety among students, prompting parents in India to express deep concern.
The association said Indian students who pursue medical education overseas do so with confidence in the Government of India’s ability to safeguard them in times of crisis. It requested the Prime Minister’s Office, in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, to initiate immediate protective measures.
AIMSA urged the government to take steps to ensure the safety and protection of all Indian medical students in Bangladesh, strengthen support through the Indian Embassy, and maintain clear communication with students and their families.
The letter, signed by AIMSA J&K Vice President Dr Mohammad Momin Khan, was also marked to External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar. [KNT]
