Ganderbal, Dec 23: Continuing its relentless efforts to eradicate illicit drug trafficking menace from J&K, Police in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal apprehended two drug peddlers, including an MBA student, and recovered heroin like substance from their possession within the jurisdiction of Police Station Kheerbhawani, police officials said on Tuesday.

Police identified the accused as Showkat Ahmad Bhat, Son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat and Sameer Ahmad Bhat (A well educated MBA Student), Son of Mohammad Muzaffar Bhat, both residents of Batwina, Ganderbal.

Police said the accused were apprehended when a police party from Police Station Kheerbawani, acting on the directions of SSP Ganderbal Khalil Ahmad Poswal (JKPS), intercepted a Maruti 800 vehicle bearing registration number JK01U-3866 during routine naka checking near the Central University on Tullamulla Road

During the search, Police stated, contraband heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession, which was subsequently seized as per legal procedures.

Accordingly, a case FIR No. 41/2025, under relevant sections of NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Kheerbhawani, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended distribution network of the contraband, they said.

Ganderbal Police reiterated its firm commitment to eradicate the menace of drugs from society and urges the public to cooperate by sharing any information related to drug trafficking.
