Srinagar, Jan 08: Authorities on Thursday closed the Daksum-Sinthan road stretch for all vehicular traffic after ice formation made the carriageway extremely slippery and unsafe, officials said.
According to information shared by the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), the decision was taken in the interest of public safety as prevailing weather conditions led to hazardous road conditions.
Officials said sprinkling of salt and urea is currently underway to de-ice the road surface and restore safe movement for vehicles. Traffic will remain suspended till the road conditions improve and are declared safe for travel, they added.
Motorists have been advised to avoid the route and cooperate with authorities until normal traffic is restored.
