Kupwara, Jan 16: In a major breakthrough, Police in Kupwara Friday late evening apprehended a drug peddler and recovered 2.3 kilograms of heroin-like contraband from her possession.
A senior Police officer told Greater Kashmir that the arrest was made during a naka and checking operation near Magray Mohalla, Gulgam, when a vehicle bearing registration number JK09C-1178 was intercepted. While the driver and two other occupants managed to flee from the spot along with the vehicle, a suspicious woman passenger was detained by the police team.
“Upon conducting a thorough search, police recovered a huge quantity of heroin-like substance weighing 2.3 kg from her possession,” he said. “A case under relevant sections has been registered at Police Station Kupwara and efforts are on to trace the absconding accused and to dismantle the entire drug supply network,” he added.
