Kupwara, Jan 23: Police on Friday rescued a woman amid heavy snowfall in the Sheenipora area of Vilgam in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said.
An official said police personnel from Police Station Vilgam swung into action after receiving an SOS regarding a woman requiring urgent medical assistance. Due to heavy snowfall and snow-covered paths, vehicular movement was not possible in the area.
With the assistance of local inhabitants, police personnel carried the woman on a charpai through deep snow and difficult terrain to ensure her safe evacuation. She was later shifted to Vilgam Hospital, where she was admitted for urgent medical treatment.
Officials said the timely response and coordinated effort of police and locals helped avert a possible medical emergency. The condition of the woman was stated to be stable.
Police have once again advised inhabitants to seek immediate help in case of emergencies during adverse weather conditions and assured that rescue teams remain on alert across the district. [KNT]
