New Delhi, Jan 26: A powerful winter storm continues sweeping across the United States, that has killed at least seven people, disrupted travel and knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of homes, reports the international media.
Severe snow, ice and freezing rain have forced widespread school and road closures and led to thousands of flight cancellations, with hazardous conditions stretching from Texas to New England.
Deaths linked to hypothermia and exposure have been reported in several states, including Louisiana, Texas, Tennessee and Kansas.
The BBC reported that more than 800,000 households were without electricity by Sunday afternoon, while over 11,000 flights were cancelled.
Authorities warned that the slow-melting snow and ice could prolong disruptions for days, with around 180 million people affected.
