Srinagar, Feb 23: Member of Parliament from Baramulla, Engineer Rashid, has approved development works exceeding ₹21 lakh under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme for the 2025-26 financial year, focusing on higher education support and eco tourism promotion in North Kashmir.
The party confirmed that the District Development Commissioner Baramulla has granted administrative sanction to a set of projects spread across the constituency.
Among the major allocations is ₹15.019 lakh for procurement of a 17-seater vehicle for Government Degree College Uri to address persistent transportation constraints faced by students travelling from remote and border belts. The move is expected to ease daily commuting challenges and improve attendance levels.
In Baramulla town, ₹3 lakh has been earmarked for levelling and improving the playground at Government Degree College Baramulla to enhance sports infrastructure and create better facilities for students.
A further ₹3 lakh has been approved for developing Dariyan at Kutru Nari Bal as a local eco tourism site. The plan includes creation of seating spaces, installation of a gazebo, development of viewpoints and strengthening of basic amenities to attract visitors while maintaining environmental balance.
Political representatives said the allocations are aimed at reinforcing educational access, youth engagement and tourism potential within the Baramulla parliamentary segment. They maintained that MPLADS resources would continue to be channelled toward priority public infrastructure and community needs across North Kashmir. [KNT]
