JKPCC holds protest against Indo-US trade deal, presses for statehood restoration

Jammu, Mar 9: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Monday held a protest demonstration against Indo-US trade deal and demanded immediate evacuation of stranded J&K citizens, including students, in Iran and Arab nations.

Protesting leaders, led by the JKPCC president Tariq Hameed Karra also sought immediate restoration of statehood, asserting that it was the right of J&K people.

Besides seeking rollback of the trade deal, the party also demanded resignation of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging that the country’s interests were being compromised.

Karra also expressed deep concern over the safety of countrymen especially students trapped in Iran and other Arab nations and demanded that the union government should take urgent steps to ensure their safe evacuation. “There are distress calls from parents and concerned citizens in this regard,” he stated.

With regard to statehood demand, Karra stated that they were seeking any favour as it (statehood) was a right of people of J&K. The protesters also burnt the flags of Israel and the US.
