Sgr-Leh HW reopens for LMV’s traffic after 4 days of closure

Sonamarg, Mar 23: The ZojiLa pass along the strategic Srinagar Leh highway was reopened partially for traffic movement on Monday after remaining closed for four days due to recent snowfall and adverse weather conditions.

Official sources said that more than dozens of light motor vehicles were allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Ladakh after authorities cleared the route and restored movement on the highway.

BRO had started the snow clearance work on the highway two days ago and after assessment of the road conditions the traffic was restored.

An official said that light motor vehicles, including passenger vehicles and Tata Mobile vehicles, were allowed to proceed from Sonamarg towards Kargil from 2 pm.

He added that heavy vehicles and goods carriers have not yet been permitted due to prevailing weather conditions and the risk of avalanches at vulnerable points along Zojila.

The MeT has predicted erratic weather ahead with chances of snow in higher reaches including Zojila pass .
