Jammu, June 14: The family and relatives of a woman, who died in a mysterious fire incident at her in-laws’ place on the intervening night of June 13 and 14, on Sunday afternoon blocked the road outside sub district hospital Akhnoor in Jammu district, seeking probe into her death.
The uncle and brother of the deceased, identified as Poonam Kalsi, alleged that they were not informed by her in-laws about the incident till she died.
“They are claiming that she died in a fire incident which erupted late Saturday night. However, her father-in-law and mother-in-law and other members of the family did not bother to inform us immediately. We were given news only this morning by her husband, presently in Leh. When we reached there, her dead body was being transported in an ambulance,” they shared with the media persons.
Her brother said that Poonam left for her in-laws’ house on Saturday after spending two days at her maternal house.
“I, myself, dropped her at Sungal Morh, on the way to her (in-laws’) residence on Saturday,” he said.
The family and relatives alleged that the victim was being regularly harassed by her in-laws, particularly her father-in-law and mother-in-law, hence they suspected their role behind her death.
The allegations, however, have not been officially confirmed.
As the blockade disrupted traffic in the area, senior officers of Police and civil administration reached the spot to pacify the protesters and persuade them to lift dharna.
Meanwhile, the Police have initiated investigation after registration of the case.
