19 property owners booked for tenant verification lapses in J-K’s Samba

Jammu, Jun 15: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday filed 19 FIRs against property owners for not providing details of tenants in Samba district, officials said.

The cases were registered at Samba and Bari Brahmana police stations during a special verification drive launched to enhance security measures and ensure strict adherence to mandatory tenant verification norms, they said.

The verification process was initiated for the outsiders staying as tenants and domestic helpers.

During the drive, 13 cases were registered at Bari Brahmana police station and six cases were registered at Samba police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), a spokesperson said.

District Magistrate Samba has ordered the mandatory police verification of the tenants. Despite these directives, the concerned house and land owners failed to comply, leading to legal action.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Samba Anuj Kumar has appealed to house and land owners to cooperate with the police and promptly provide complete details of their tenants and domestic helpers at their nearest police station.

He emphasised that timely police verification is essential for maintaining law and order and preventing any misuse of rented accommodations by anti-social or criminal elements.

The drive comes two days after the SSP conducted an extensive review of security arrangements in the Bari Brahmana area to assess the readiness of police for the smooth and secure conduct of the annual Amarnath pilgrimage.

As part of the inspection, the SSP visited various lodgement centres designated for accommodating pilgrims and thoroughly reviewed the security deployment and operational preparedness of the police personnel posted at the locations.

During the review, special emphasis was laid on strengthening security arrangements at all national highway checkpoints falling within the district.
