Eight people were killed after a US Air Force B-52 Stratofortress bomber crashed and burst into flames immediately after takeoff from Edwards Air Force Base in southern California on Monday.
The aircraft was on a routine test mission supporting a radar modernisation programme when the accident occurred, BBC reported.
Base officials said the crash was “not survivable” and all operations at the airfield have been temporarily suspended. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The B-52, a long-range strategic bomber in service since the 1950s, is one of the US military’s most important aircraft.
