The Sericulture Development Department on Wednesday launched a three-day skill development programme for silkworm rearers under the Silk Samagra-II scheme at the New Cocoon Auction Market, Alochi Bagh, Srinagar.

The programme was inaugurated by Director Sericulture J&K, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, and witnessed participation from silkworm rearers and sericulture farmers from Harwan, Dara, Faqir Gojri, Mulnaar and other areas of Srinagar district.

Officials said the training programme aims to enhance the technical capabilities of farmers by equipping them with scientific knowledge and practical skills to improve cocoon production and adopt modern sericulture practices.

Addressing the participants, the Director stressed the importance of capacity building and regular training for the sustainable growth of the sericulture sector in Jammu and Kashmir. He said the government is committed to supporting silkworm rearers through technical guidance, quality inputs and institutional support under the Silk Samagra-II scheme.

During the three-day programme, experts from the department will provide training on scientific silkworm rearing practices, mulberry plantation management, disease prevention and control, post-harvest cocoon handling and other advanced techniques aimed at improving cocoon quality and productivity.

The programme will also serve as an interactive platform for farmers to share experiences, seek technical guidance and gain exposure to innovative technologies and best practices being promoted under the Silk Samagra-II scheme.
