Banihal, June 30: Two persons were killed and several others, including a woman, were injured after a truck collided with a tractor late Monday night on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway near Peerah area of Ramban district.

According to police, the accident took place around 10:35 PM near New Khajuria Dhaba at Peerah when a truck bearing registration number RJ37GA-7418, en route from Jammu towards Srinagar, hit a tractor.

Police officials said that an unidentified male person died on the spot, while 2–3 others sustained injuries in the accident. The injured persons and the body of the deceased were shifted to District Hospital Ramban, where another injured person identified as Subash, son of Norang Lal, a resident of Rajasthan, was declared dead by doctors.

SHO Chanderkote Jatinder Singh Rakwal told Greater Kashmir that soon after receiving information, a police team reached the spot and launched rescue operations. He said the damaged vehicles were later removed from the middle of the highway to facilitate smooth movement of traffic.

The SHO added that the identity of the other deceased person is being ascertained.

Police have registered an FIR at Police Station Chanderkote and initiated further investigation into the matter.
