Moul Mouj Foundation institutes Dr Ali Jan Award

On the occasion of National Doctors’ Day 2026, Moul Mouj Foundation (MMF), through its academic wing, Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies on Ageing (CISA), has become the first healthcare foundation in Jammu & Kashmir to institute the Dr. Ali Jan Award, a prestigious annual honour recognising outstanding contributions to the medical profession.

Inspired by the ideals of the Dr. B. C. Roy National Award, the Dr. Ali Jan Award has been instituted to honour the legacy of the legendary physician Dr. Ali Jan and recognize doctors who exemplify excellence, ethics, compassion, leadership, innovation, and dedicated service to humanity.

The decision to institute the award was unanimously approved, in accordance with the MMF bylaws, during the Foundation’s General Body Meeting following detailed deliberations and with the concurrence of the Governing Body of CISA comprising Zareef A. Zareef, noted poet; Prof. Sidiq Wahid, Former VC, IUST; Prof. Parvaiz A. Shah, Former Principal, GMC Srinagar; Prof. Parvaiz Koul, Former Director, SKIMS; Khurshid A. Ashraf Teli, Senior Radiation Oncologist (Cancer Care Project); Prof. Khursheed Aslam Khan, Senior Interventional Cardiologist (Seniors’ Heart Care Project); and Prof. Syeda Afshana, Media Academic (Project Head, Intergenerational Communication Project); and the MMF Advisory Board comprising Mandip Kaur (Civil Society); Prof. Masooda Yaseen, Former MD, WDC; Naseem Lankar, Former Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir; Masooda Rajpuri, Former Registrar, SKIMS; Nazifa Alvi, Chairperson, Friends Association; and Nighat Shafi, Chairperson, HELP Foundation. The announcement was made on behalf of the Foundation by its office bearers—Dr. Zubair Saleem, Founder & Chairman; Dr. Shakeel Ur Rehman, Secretary General; and M. Iqbal Shah, Joint Secretary.

Beginning this year, two awards will be presented annually—one in the Kashmir Division during the 2nd Annual International MMFDIACON-2026 and the other in the Jammu Division during the MMFJMUCON-2026 Winter Conference.

The Foundation stated that the award seeks to uphold the highest standards of medical professionalism while celebrating physicians whose lifelong service has made a lasting impact on patient care and healthcare in Jammu & Kashmir.

The eligibility criteria, nomination process, and selection guidelines will be notified separately. The Moul Mouj Foundation expresses its gratitude to the family of the late Dr. Ali Jan, particularly his son, Dr. Ali Ahmad Fazili, for consenting to institute this award in the revered memory of one of Kashmir’s most distinguished physicians.
