Stolen gold worth Rs 1.5 Cr recovered in Jammu

Jammu, May 3: Police have recovered gold worth Rs 1.5 crore stolen from a residential house in Bakshi Nagar within 48 hours and also stated to have solved a case of donation box theft in a temple in Miran Sahib, Jammu within days, by arresting 4 thieves.

Police said a case of theft of approximately 1.5 kg of gold, during the intervening night of April 29 and 30, 2025, was reported in Bakshi Nagar Police Station.

Upon receiving the report, the police swung into action, utilizing technical and human intelligence to track down the stolen gold.

A special team was constituted under the supervision of SP City North, Vivek Shekhar and SDPO City West, Satish Bhardwaj.

The team included SHO Bakshi Nagar Inspector Azad Manhas; SHO Janipur, Inspector Vikram Sharma; SHO Bus Stand, Inspector Vikas Dogra; SHO Nowabad, Inspector Deepak Pathania; PSI Murtaza Rehman; SI Sunil Singh Thakur; PSI Vishal besides others.

FSL teams and sniffer dogs were also deployed to aid in the investigation and recovery. The team worked tirelessly, and their dedication paid off as they recovered the stolen gold within 48 hours, Police said, adding, ìThe investigation is still underway and the police are working to apprehend the accused.î

In the second incident, Police said, ìA complaint was lodged by one Vinod Kumar, son of Des Raj, resident of Chak Shian, at Police Station Miran Sahib stating that on March 21, 2025, at about 2:10 pm, some unknown persons entered the Mata Situa temple in village Chak Shian and stole the temples donation box containing approximately Rs 25,000.î

Accordingly, a case FIR No 57/2025 under Sections 331(3)/305 BNS was registered and an investigation started under the command of SHO Miran Sahib Inspector Jai Paul Sharma.

ìThe investigation team by utilising human and tech int finally succeeded in getting the break-through and arresting the accused persons and recovering the stolen items. Those arrested included Anil Kumar, son of Kuldeep Kumar, resident of Ganda; Azhar Mohd, son of Sakhi Mohd, resident of Ganda; Dheeraj Kumar, son of Bawa Ram, resident of Ganda and Sahil Kumar, son of Bua Ditta, resident of Badyal Brahmana, Police said.

An auto, bearing registration number JK02DE-8217, used in the commission of the crime, was also seized.
