CM Omar condemns killing of policeman in Anantnag terror attack

Srinagar, July 22: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday condemned the terror attack in south Kashmir’s Anantnag in which a policeman was killed. He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed for eternal peace to the slain policeman.

“Deeply saddened by the death in the line of duty of Head Constable Ashiq Hussain of IRP 3rd Battalion J&K Police. HC Hussain made the ultimate sacrifice in a cowardly terror attack in Anantnag area of South Kashmir.

I unequivocally condemn this attack & send my heartfelt condolences to the members of his family. May Allah grant him the highest place in Jannat,” CM Omar in a post on X said.

A policeman was killed after terrorists fired upon a Special Operations Group (SOG) team in the Lal Chowk area of Anantnag town in south Kashmir on Wednesday afternoon.

A senior police officer told Greater Kashmir that the SOG team went to area following inputs about the presence of inimical elements. “As the team reached the area, the hiding terrorists opened fire on the personnel, leaving a constable injured.”

He said the injured constable was immediately moved to a hospital, where he succumbed.
The slain constable was identified as Ashiq Hussain, a resident of Beerwah in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

Soon after the attack, a massive cordon-and-search operation was launched in the area to nab the assailants.
