NCC organises Cyclothon 2026 to mark 79th Independence anniversary

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) on Sunday organised Cyclothon 2026 in New Delhi to commemorate 79 years of India’s Independence, promoting fitness, environmental responsibility and patriotism among the youth.

The event was flagged off by Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in the presence of Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, boxing legend M C Mary Kom, tennis star Leander Paes and Director General NCC Lieutenant General Virendra Vats.

A group of 79 NCC cadets undertook a symbolic 79-km ride, starting and ending at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium after passing through prominent landmarks of the national capital.

Held under the theme “Clean India, Green India, Fit India,” the cyclothon reinforced NCC’s commitment to national initiatives such as TB Mukt Bharat, Swachh Bharat, Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam and Har Ghar Tiranga. It also encouraged the use of cycling as an eco-friendly mode of transport while spreading awareness about physical fitness, road safety, environmental conservation and responsible citizenship.
