NASA astronauts Jessica Meir and Indian-origin astronaut Anil Menon successfully completed a spacewalk outside the International Space Station (ISS), concluding a mission that lasted six hours and 27 minutes, according to NASA.
The spacewalk ended at 3 p.m. EDT on Thursday and marked the first spacewalk for Menon and the sixth for Meir.
During the mission, the astronauts completed their primary objective of preparing the station’s 3B power channel for the future installation of International Space Station Roll-Out Solar Arrays (IROSA). NASA said the new solar arrays will provide additional power to the orbiting laboratory, helping support critical onboard systems and the station’s safe, controlled deorbit in the future.
According to NASA, the mission was the 281st spacewalk conducted in support of the assembly, maintenance and upgrading of the International Space Station.
