Body of Srinagar youth retrieved from Nallah Sindh after two-day search

Kangan, Aug 22: The body of an 18-year-old youth from Srinagar was retrieved from Nallah Sindh in the Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district following an intensive two-day joint search and rescue operation.

The deceased has been identified as Danish Bilal, a resident of the Srinagar.
The incident occurred when Danish reportedly slipped and was swept away by fast-flowing currents while taking a bath in Nallah Sindh near the Dumping Park at Kijpara in Kangan on Friday. Alarmed onlookers immediately alerted local authorities after he failed to surface.

Personnel from the Kangan Police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) units from Ganderbal and Gund, and local residents immediately mobilized a multi-agency search effort downstream. Rescuers navigated treacherous water speeds and cold temperatures across Friday and Saturday before trace teams recovered the body near Preng area.

Officials said after necessary medico-legal formalities the body will be handed over to the family for last rites. Local police have registered a case regarding the incident.

Local administration officials have issued repeated advisories urging youth and tourists to exercise extreme caution near fast-flowing water bodies like Nallah Sindh, especially during summer months when water levels and currents remain unpredictable.
