Srinagar, Aug 30: Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a sharp decline in several key indicators of terrorism and violence, with stone-pelting incidents dropping by 98.6 percent and youth recruitment into terrorism has also declined by 99 percent between 2018 and 2025.
The NITI Aayog figures produced on significant improvement in Law and Order compares compares key security indicators between 2018 and 2025 and points to a substantial reduction in violence-related incidents across J&K.
As per the figures, stone-pelting incidents have declined from 1767 reported in 2018 to only 25 in 2025 which shows a 98.6 percent reduction in such incidents.
Similarly, youth recruitment in terrorism has also witnessed a sharp decline from 199 cases reported in 2018 to only two in 2025 which is around 99 percent reduction.
Also, the number of terrorist-initiated incidents have also declined sharply from 228 in 2018 to 12 in 2025 which is almost a 95 percent decline in such incidents.
The NITI Aayog data further shows that counter-terror operations and encounters have also come down from 189 in 2018 to 33 in 2025 which is an 82.5 percent decline.
As per the figures, the number of terrorists killed has declined from 257 to 34 from 2018 to 2025 which is around 87 percent reduction in such incidents.
The number of security forces personnel martyred in terrorist incidents and encounters has also dropped from 91 in 2018 to 16 in 2025 showing a decline of 82.4 percent in such violence related incidents.
As per the NITI Aayog figures, civilian casualties have also witnessed a substantial decline as the number of civilians killed in terrorist incidents or encounters has declined from 55 in 2018 to 28 in 2025.
The reduction is around 49.1 percent.
However the number of terrorist associates or suspects arrested have shown an increase from 105 in 2018 to 143 in 2025.
The action has witnessed an increase of 36.2 percent, showcasing intensified action against the support network associated with terrorism.
As per the official figures, there has been a decline in ceasefire violations from 382 in 2018 to 193 in 2025 which is a reduction by 49.5 percent.
Referring to Operation Sindoor, the NITI Aayog figures have pointed out administrative and relief response during the Operation Sindoor in May 2025, following LoC shelling between May 7 and 10 of 2025.
As per the official figures, Poonch, Rajouri, Jammu, Baramulla, and Kupwara were identified as severely affected districts.
In wake of this authorities took proactive administrative measures during the operation.
“As part of the coordinated response to the LoC shelling, 3.26 lakh persons were evacuated while 397 relief centres were established and 15,293 persons were lodged in these centres,” read the NITI Aayog figures.
As per the figures, health services were activated and 394 ambulances were mobilised besides activating 2818 Civil Defence volunteers to assist the response.
“The authorities also activated 9,701 bunkers besides taking measures to protect infrastructure, ensure supplies and prevent hoarding,” the document reads.
As per the figures, 19 deaths and 127 injuries were reported following which the government distributed Rs 3.59 crore in relief to victims and provided 15 compassionate appointments to the next of kin.
“The shelling also caused extensive damage to residential properties as 2,069 residential structures suffered major losses. An amount of Rs 3.17 crore was distributed as relief for the damaged structures,” it reads.
In addition, an amount of Rs 20.86 crore was disbursed as additional compensation for damaged residential houses.
