In a move to strengthen medical education and faculty hierarchy in the Government Medical Colleges of J&K, Government today sanctioned the promotion of 53 of faculty members across GMCs in Jammu, Rajouri, Doda, Baramulla and Anantnag.
The orders were issued on August 31, 2026,after the nod of the Departmental Promotion Committee and the Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission. Eligible Associate Professors have been promoted to the post of Professor and Assistant Professors to Associate Professor in various clinical and non-clinical disciplines. The promotions, as per the order, will take effect on a prospective basis.
The largest list appears in Government Order No. 656-JK (HME) of 2026 for Government Medical College, Anantnag affecting promotion of 22 faculty members. This includes promotions in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Community Medicine, Psychiatry, Physiology, Anaesthesiology, Pharmacology, ENT, Orthopaedics, Radio Diagnosis, Pathology, Paediatrics, Dentistry, General Medicine, Radiation Oncology and Microbiology. Several Assistant Professors have also been regularized/promoted to Associate Professor.
Government Order No. 660-JK (HME) of 2026 covers Government Medical College, Jammu. It lists 13 faculty members, including in departments of Radiotherapy and Anesthesiology. Faculty has also been promoted in department of Surgical Gastroenterology, Biochemistry, Community Medicine, Physiology and Anatomy.
Government Order No. 659-JK (HME) of 2026 pertains to Government Medical College, Rajouri, where seven faculty members have been promoted. These include Dr. Syed Shuja Akhtar Qadri (Community Medicine), Dr. Suhail Banday (Anaesthesiology), Dr. Meenakshi Khajuria (Pathology), Dr. Rohni Sharma (Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy) and Dr. Satish Sharma (Dentistry) to Professor. Two others move up to Associate Professor in Biochemistry and Pathology.
At Government Medical College, Doda, ten faculty members have been promoted. These include promotion to Professor level for Dr. Najmus Saqib (Paediatrics), Dr. Madhu Kapoor Chib (Obstetrics & Gynaecology), Dr. Garima Charak (Physiology), Dr. Khalid Muzzafer (Orthopaedics), Dr. Babar Rashid Zargar (General Surgery), Dr. Sumat-Ul-Khurshid (Pathology), Dr. Rahil Muzaffar (ENT) and Dr. Rajat Rakesh Khajuria (Dentistry). Two Assistant Professors have been promoted to Associate Professor in Orthopaedics and Biochemistry.
Government Order No. 657-JK (HME) of 2026 for Government Medical College, Baramulla promotes a single Associate Professor, Dr. Mehmood Rashid of General Surgery to Professor.
All the orders carry a standard caveat that the promotions and regularizations will remain subject to the outcome of any writ petition(s) pending in court.
