Sopore, Sep 06: A 60-year-old man was killed in a tragic road accident after being crushed by a truck in the Chankhan area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday, reports said.

The deceased has been identified as Ghulam Nabi Ganaie, a resident of Untoo Hamam, Sopore.

According to preliminary reports, Ghulam Nabi was travelling on a tonga and had reportedly just got down from it when a Truck vehicle allegedly ran over him. The impact was so severe that he sustained critical injuries and died on the spot.

The incident sent shockwaves across the area, with locals expressing grief over the tragic loss of life. The accident also raised concerns among residents regarding road safety and the movement of heavy vehicles in populated areas.

The body was later shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Sopore for medico-legal formalities. After completion of the required procedures, the body was handed over to the deceased’s family for the last rites.

Meanwhile, police have initiated necessary proceedings and are ascertaining the circumstances leading to the accident.
