MMF launches free Moul Mouj Dementia helpline across J&K

Responding to a growing and urgent demand for dementia support from families across Jammu and Kashmir, Moul Mouj Foundation (MMF) today launched a free dedicated Moul Mouj Dementia Helpline offering tele-consultation, counselling and caregiver support across Jammu and Kashmir, coinciding with World Alzheimer’s Month.

The initiative comes amid growing concern over dementia in the region. A nationwide study published in Alzheimer’s & Dementia reported a dementia prevalence of 11.04% among people aged 60 and above in J&K, compared with a national estimate of 7.4%.

The live helpline will operate Monday to Saturday, 8:00–9:00 PM, addressing the difficult evening hours when dementia-related confusion and agitation often worsen. A 24/7 WhatsApp service will also allow caregivers to seek guidance and receive tailored care and digital resources. All services are free.

“Caring for a loved one with dementia is an incredibly demanding journey, particularly during the evening when behavioural challenges often peak,” said Dr Zubair Saleem, Founder of MMF and leading geriatrician.

“This helpline ensures that caregivers are never alone when they need support most.”

Beyond tele-consultation, MMF will provide customised caregiver digital kits, behavioural logs and home-safety checklists, based on the patient’s needs.

“Dementia affects the entire family, not just the patient,” said Dr Shakeel ur Rehman, Secretary General, MMF.

“We aim to combine clinical advice with practical tools and counselling that can reduce caregiver stress and improve quality of life.”

Families can access the service by calling the helpline 1800-20-30-337 or 6005463346 on weekdays from 8:00–9:00 PM, or messaging the team on WhatsApp at 6005463346.
