RailOne app gains popularity among rail passengers, unreserved ticket bookings rise in Jammu

Jammu, Sep 15: The RailOne app developed by Indian Railways is gaining popularity among passengers in Jammu division, with a significant rise in the booking of unreserved tickets through the digital platform, railway officials said.

The initiative is part of the Railways’ efforts to promote digital services and provide passengers with convenient, quick and hassle-free travel facilities.

According to data available as on September 14, around 17 per cent of passengers at major stations in the non-suburban (NSG) stations-1 to NSG-3 categories booked unreserved tickets through the app instead of ticket counters, while the figure stood at around 28 per cent at NSG-4 to NSG-6 category stations.

Railways classifies non-suburban railway stations into six categories, with grade 1 stations being the biggest in India in terms of passenger traffic and revenues.

The increasing use of the app indicates a growing preference among passengers for booking unreserved (general) tickets through their mobile phones instead of standing in queues at railway stations, officials said.

To encourage digital ticketing, the Railways has also introduced an incentive for passengers using the R-wallet. Passengers recharging their R-wallet and booking tickets through it are eligible for an additional three per cent bonus on the recharge amount, they said.

RailOne, described as an all-in-one super app of Indian Railways, offers several passenger services on a single platform, including booking of reserved and unreserved tickets, platform tickets, PNR status, live train status and tracking, coach position and train arrival and departure information, they said.

The app also provides access to grievance redressal and suggestions through Rail Madad and allows passengers to order food through the e-catering facility.

The digital initiative is aimed at saving passengers’ time, reducing queues and congestion at railway stations and promoting paperless travel, officials said.
