Jammu, Sep 17: A 35-year-old newspaper vendor was shot dead inside his residence in Resham Ghar Colony in Jammu on Thursday afternoon, with police launching an investigation to identify and apprehend the attacker.
The deceased has been identified as Deepak Sharma, a resident of Resham Ghar Colony.
According to family members, Sharma had returned home for lunch when an unidentified man allegedly entered his room and shot him in the head at close range before fleeing the scene.
Sharma was rushed to Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital, Jammu, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The incident has shocked residents of the locality, with neighbours saying they did not hear any gunshot despite the killing taking place during the day.
Sharma is survived by his wife and two children.
Police have registered an FIR at Bakshi Nagar Police Station and initiated an investigation. The crime scene has been secured, while CCTV footage from the area is being examined to identify the assailant and ascertain the circumstances surrounding the killing.
