Srinagar, Sep 21: J&K Peoples Conference President and MLA Handwara Sajad Lone launched a scathing attack on the National Conference government on Monday after assembly data revealed a devastating gap between election promises and ground reality on the recruitment front.
Speaking after the assembly adjournment, he raised a pointed question on recruitment figures. Lone said the data had exposed ugly truths about the false promises made by the NC government.
“The NC manifesto is a litany of lies,” he declared making clear he was not speaking in abstractions but backing every word with cold hard numbers extracted from the government’s own records.
On the most glaring failure Lone pointed out that the NC manifesto had promised one lakh new jobs to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Against that promise the government has managed to create only 899 jobs till date. Doing the math Lone delivered a damning verdict.
“At the current rate it will take them 222.46 years to create one lakh jobs. What a joke.” He paused before adding what he called the more painful truth. “The bigger joke is on those people who bought this lie.”
The second broken promise relates to vacancies in government departments.
The NC had committed in its manifesto to fill all vacant posts within 180 days of coming to power. The assembly data tells a starkly different story with only 7580 vacancies filled in the past two years while 40672 posts continue to remain vacant. Breaking down the numbers Lone noted that 24427 non-gazetted posts remain unfilled alongside 3318 gazetted posts and 12927 multi-tasking staff positions still lying empty.
“At this pace it will take more than a decade to fill up these 40672 posts,” he said leaving the treasury benches with little room to respond.
The third broken promise involves application fees for government jobs. NC had publicly committed to waiving off these fees so that financial burden would not become a barrier for job aspirants. Lone revealed that he had submitted a question on this very issue in the assembly a year ago and the answer that came back was deeply damning.
“It turned out the same government had collected crores in application fees,” he said highlighting the brazen contradiction between promise and practice.(KNS)
