Action taken against 4 drug shops after surprise inspections

Anantnag, Oct 3: The Drug Control Department and J&K Police conducted surprise inspections across Anantnag district on Saturday, suspending operations at four medical shops and issuing a show-cause notice to another for alleged licence violations.

The joint teams inspected 29 medical establishments at Janglat Mandi, Lal Chowk, Reshi Bazar, Khanabal, Botangoo and General Bus Stand as part of an enforcement drive against the unauthorised sale and misuse of psychotropic medicines.

Officials said the teams checked records related to the procurement, storage, sale and distribution of medicines, particularly drugs considered prone to dependence and misuse.

Operations at four medical shops were suspended on the spot, while a show-cause notice was issued to another establishment for allegedly violating the conditions of its drug licence.

The drive was aimed at strengthening surveillance of the pharmaceutical supply chain and preventing the diversion of medicines for non-medical use, officials said.

Authorities said similar inspections and awareness drives would continue across the district to ensure compliance with drug control regulations.

They warned that strict action would be taken against establishments found violating statutory provisions governing the sale and distribution of medicines.
