Banihal, Oct 08: One person was killed and eight others critically injured when a Tata Sumo carrying nine persons met with an accident near Senabati in Pogal Paristan tehsil of Ramban district late Wednesday night.
According to police, the Tata Sumo, bearing registration number JK14A-9715, was travelling from Senabati towards Chunthan around 10 pm when it skidded off the road and plunged down a roadside slope.
One person died on the spot, while the eight injured were initially shifted to PHC Ukhral. They were subsequently referred to higher medical facilities for specialised treatment.
Police identified the deceased as driver Vijay Singh, 30, son of Raj Singh, a resident of Chunthan.
The injured were identified as Soni Chand (32), Anand Singh (26), Anil Chand (26), Naresh Singh (24), Jatinder Singh (24), Ravinder Singh (24), Sunil Singh (26) and Ravjit Singh (27), all residents of Chunthan, Senabati, in Ukhral Pogal Paristan tehsil of Ramban district.
Soni Chand and Sunil Singh were referred to Jammu, while the remaining injured were referred to GMC Anantnag for further treatment.
The body of the deceased was shifted to the mortuary at PHC Ukhral.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident.
