JKEEGA seeks resolution of engineers’ long-pending service issues

Srinagar, Oct 21: A delegation of the J&K Electrical Engineering Graduates Association (JKEEGA), led by its General Secretary, Er. Pirzada Mohammad Hidayatullah, met Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani and raised five key issues concerning the regularisation, career progression and service-related matters of engineers in the Power Development Department.

The delegation apprised the Advisor of the concerns of the engineering fraternity and sought his intervention for the timely resolution of long-pending issues.

On the regularisation of engineers, JKEEGA expressed concern over the proposed routing of eligible cases through the Public Service Commission (PSC) instead of the established departmental mechanism. The Association pointed out that the minutes of the Establishment-cum-Selection Committee meeting, signed by the Administrative Secretary, Power Development Department, had already addressed the matter. It urged that eligible cases be processed through the established committee mechanism to expedite regularisation.

The delegation also sought the filling of Assistant Engineer posts falling under the direct recruitment quota by eligible in-service Junior Engineers, in accordance with the recommendations of a committee headed by the Managing Director, Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL). The Association said the move would help address stagnation at the Junior Engineer level and improve career progression prospects.

Another major issue raised was the withdrawal of S.O. 193 of 2026. JKEEGA highlighted concerns regarding its implications for the engineering fraternity and called for measures to safeguard the professional interests and responsibilities of engineers in the power sector.

The delegation also urged the government to fill vacant senior-level positions, including those of Executive Directors and Managing Directors, to strengthen administrative functioning and create opportunities for further promotions.

In addition, the Association sought the unconditional closure of pending Regular Departmental Action (RDA) cases against Junior Engineers, stating that the cases were impeding their career progression.

The Advisor gave a patient hearing to the delegation and took cognisance of the issues raised. He directed that the matter be taken up with the Administrative Secretary, Power Development Department, for further consideration.

According to the Association, a meeting between the Advisor and the Administrative Secretary, Power Development Department, has been scheduled for tomorrow to discuss the issues. JKEEGA expressed hope that the deliberations would lead to a positive outcome.

The delegation expressed gratitude to the Advisor for hearing their concerns and taking up the matter for further consideration.

The delegation comprised Er. Aijaz Ahmed Mir, Er. Riyaz Ahmed Sheikh, Er. Mohd Saeed Wani, Er. Fayaz Ahmed Wani, Er. Hur-e-Yasrab, Er. Shah Asif Iqbal and Er. Amir Amin Masoodi.
