Srinagar, Oct 27: The All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) has extended its full support to the postgraduate (PG) residents of Government Medical College (GMC), Handwara, who are set to begin a peaceful protest on Wednesday, October 28, demanding a long-pending hike in their stipends.
AIMSA stands firmly with the PG residents in their legitimate demand for fair and adequate stipends and urges the Jammu & Kashmir Government to address the issue without further delay.
Dr Mohammad Momin Khan, President of AIMSA, urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the J&K Government to immediately revise the stipends of PG residents. He pointed out that the government has already enhanced the stipend for MBBS interns, and called for similar attention to the long-pending demands of postgraduate doctors.
Dr Sanjeev Lather, RDA President, and Dr Abhijeet Gangasagar, RDA Vice President, GMC Handwara, confirmed that PG residents would begin their peaceful protest on Wednesday, October 28, to press for their demands.
Dr Mohit, Vice President of AIMSA, along with AIMSA Chief Advisors Dr Owais, Dr Rajat, Dr Sanah and Dr Rouf, questioned the continued delay in revising PG residents’ stipends, highlighting the demanding working conditions, long duty hours and tireless service rendered by resident doctors.
They stressed that PG residents play a crucial role in patient care and the functioning of government hospitals and deserve fair and adequate financial compensation for their work.
AIMSA reiterated its unwavering support for the protesting residents and appealed to the J&K Government to intervene urgently and resolve the issue through a timely and concrete decision.
“Resident doctors work tirelessly to serve patients. Their legitimate demand for a stipend hike must not be ignored. AIMSA stands firmly with the PG residents of GMC Handwara until their concerns are addressed,” the association stated.
