GMC Handwara PG residents protest, demand stipend hike

Srinagar, Oct 28: Postgraduate (PG) residents of Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara held a peaceful protest, demanding a hike in their stipends and urging the government of Jammu and Kashmir to address their long-pending concerns.

“If PG residents in other states are receiving more than ₹1 lakh, why are we being paid significantly less?” The protesting residents questioned the disparity in stipends.

The All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) has extended its full solidarity and support to the protesting doctors, calling for fair and equitable stipends for PG residents across Jammu and Kashmir.

Dr Mohammad Momin Khan, President of AIMSA, expressed strong support for the residents and urged the government to address their genuine demands without further delay. He warned that if the government fails to listen to the protesting doctors, PG residents from other Government Medical Colleges across Jammu and Kashmir may also join the protest in solidarity.

AIMSA reiterated its commitment to supporting PG residents in their fight for fair stipends, dignity, and recognition of their demanding services to the healthcare system. The association urged the government to initiate timely action to resolve the issue
