Army, J&K Police continue operation to clear live artillery shells in Rajouri

Rajouri, May 13: Following the recent heavy artillery shelling from Pakistan, the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir police have launched a major operation to trace and destroy live artillery shells scattered in civilian areas of Rajouri district.

The operation, which began on Monday morning, aims to mitigate the risk posed by these unexploded shells to the local population.

The areas of Rajouri district suffered significant loss of life and property due to the intense shelling over the past three days.

Officials said that, now that the shelling has ceased, locals have reported spotting numerous live artillery shells in various areas, posing a grave risk to people’s safety.

To address this critical situation, officials stated,  the Indian Army and J&K Police are working tirelessly to identify and destroy these shells through controlled mechanisms.

On Tuesday also, the Indian Army destroyed a number of shells in the Nowshera subdivision near the Line of Control in Rajouri district, further ensuring the safety of civilians in the region.

The operation underscores the commitment of the Indian Army and J&K Police to protect the lives and property of citizens in the face of such threats, said officials.
